So… Jonathan Zamkoff: so, you’re steeped in Mercenaries lore. How Pandemic and EA eventually didn’t agree to work on the first game together, and how Pandemic went independent with a different game that LucasArts ended up signing and publishing.

I’m also aware of the back-story of Mercenaries, the first time around. What did he have to say? You start with the Oil Company and the Communist Guerillas, who drop out of the plot halfway through for the U.S. However, a big problem is that none of the missions are as fun, nothing is as spectacular, as the ones in Mercenaries.Īnother problem is the factions aren’t that well developed. There are some more cuteness involving the character beyond listening to mission briefings, and that the badguys are all people you’ve actually met gives them a little more presence than the various Ace cards in Mercs 1. The second game added a ton more personality-first the player created the war in the first place and is there to get payback because the villain screwed them out of their payday. The player mercs were kind of stiff, though.
